Sound Isolation Solutions for Commercial Roofing Systems

Written by Green Building Pro Staff

The FAA has continuously, consistently and actively encouraged a balanced approach to noise problems at our nation’s airports. A reasonable approach to noise mitigation is important, in part, because new noise certification and abatement procedures have in many instances been extremely successful in reducing noise impacts at airports across the country without access restrictions.

The Aviation Safety and Noise Abatement Act lists the soundproofing of public buildings as a key step in most noise compatibility programs. In this regard, commercial roofing systems have proven to be worthwhile targets for sound remediation.

What is Hybrid Block?

Written by Green Building Pro Staff

Hybrid Block is recognized as the ultimate building solution for economical and environmentally-friendly construction.

This ‘stay-in-place’ system is made of lightweight composite material called thastyron, which is produced with 85% recycled polystyrene (Styrofoam) and 15% recycled cement.

First introduced in 1972 in Austria, Hybrid Block is the original insulating concrete form (ICF) used throughout the world, in all types of climates. Today it is not only recognized as the original, but also as the best product of any ICF category.

At a Boeing building in Kent, Wash., nine cooling towers can support the production of 23,000 gallons (87,000 liters) per minute of chilled water that is used to support critical heating, ventilation and air-conditioning systems. A conservation initiative by Site Services of Shared ServicesGroup is expected to save 7.6 million gallons (28.9 million liters)a year there, plus eliminate harmful chemicals and significantlyreduce maintenance. Similar improvements at Boeing facilities in El Segundo, Calif., are expected to save an estimated  95,000 gallons (356,600 liters) of water a month.

SIPs Are the Ultimate Green Framing Product

What is a sustainable building?

•  Healthy - SIPs have better indoor air quality (IAQ)
•  Comfortable -SIPs are warmer in winter, cooler in summer
•  Efficient - SIPs save an average of 50% on energy bills
•  Easy to maintain/operate - Tight envelope reduces pollutants
•  Environmentally responsive - SIPs produce 30% less waste than traditional construction, reduce operating costs & conserve natural resources.
