| PORTLAND, Ore. – May 25, 2011 – PECI, a leader in the field of energy efficiency solutions, was recognized as a Portland Climate Champion by the City of Portland’s Businesses for an Environmentally Sustainable Tomorrow (BEST) Business Center. The award honors businesses in Portland that have taken comprehensive, concrete actions to reduce their carbon emissions in business operations. The Climate Champion designation is a voluntary program that has been in place since 2009. PECI has developed sustainable policies and procedures within its main office in Portland with the aim of conserving resources, improving efficiency, and providing a healthy, quality workspace for employees. PECI Executive Director Phil Welker receives Climate Champion Award from the “We are proud to recognize City of Portland’s Paul de Block. We look forward to their ongoing leadership in this area.” Climate Champions are required to meet at least 25 verifiable goals in Energy Conservation, Renewable Power, Transportation, Water Conservation, Purchasing & Waste Prevention, Recycling & Composting, and Alternative Actions within each category. PECI met all of the required goals and exceeded the goals in the Energy Conservation, Transportation, Recycling and Composting, and in Alternative Actions categories. The Climate Champion designation is valid through 2013. Portland’s BEST Business Center streamlines access to financial incentives and technical assistancefor greening business operations. These services are tailored to help each business conserveresources, improve efficiency, save money and provide a healthy and quality workspace for employees.The BEST Business Center created Portland Climate Champions to recognize businesses in Portlandthat have taken comprehensive, concrete actions to reduce their carbon emissions. The ClimateChampion designation is valid for three years.
