SAN FRANCISCO – December 15, 2010 – Metrus Energy, Inc., a developer and financer of energy efficiency retrofits, announced today a second project with BAE Systems, Siemens Industry, Inc. and Bank of America. Under Metrus’ Efficiency Services Agreement (ESA), BAE Systems’ Greenlawn, N.Y. facility will implement approximately $2 million in efficiency measures with repayment based solely on realized energy savings. Scheduled for completion in mid-2011, the project encompasses a range of energy efficiency measures to reduce electric and natural gas consumption, including heating and cooling system upgrades, high-efficiency pumps, motors and controls. The upgrades will save a total of approximately $300 thousand in annual energy and operating costs. Metrus collaborated with Siemens’ Building Technologies Division on the development of the project. Siemens is responsible for the project design, installation and delivery of ongoing maintenance services.
“Since implementing utility cost take out initiatives back in 2005, the Greenlawn campus has reduced total energy costs by approximately 40 percent. We look forward to continued work with Metrus under its ESA to fund additional efficiency projects that will further reduce our energy consumption and support our corporate responsibility goals,” said Steve Hannwacker, BAE Systems’ Greenlawn Facility Manager. “This is our second project with BAE Systems, demonstrating the scalability of our financing solutions across a portfolio of facilities,” said Bob Hinkle, CEO and Founder of Metrus. “Our ESA enables customers to treat energy efficiency as a resource that improves their bottom line and enhances the environmental performance of their business operations.” Earlier this year, Metrus successfully finalized its first project with BAE Systems at BAE’s Merrimack, N.H. facility as part of a $1 million retrofit project. By overcoming first-cost barriers, Metrus enables commercial and industrial businesses to pay for efficiency measures via an output-based cost per avoided energy units service charge that is set at-or-below current utility rates. “Our roll out of the Pay-for-Performance retrofit program to additional BAE Systems sites highlights Siemens’ ability to deliver on its promises and provide customers with comprehensive energy efficiency solutions that pay for themselves,” said Joe Berkemeyer, Director of Financial Services for Siemens Industry, Building Technologies. For Bank of America, the BAE projects are part of its 10-year, $20 billion business initiative focused on addressing climate change. “We are pleased to partner again with Metrus and Siemens to provide the capital means to implement large-scale efficiency retrofits at a second BAE Systems facility. Financing of efficiency projects is central to Bank of America’s mission, not only for their proven financial success but also for their ability to protect the environment and create jobs,” said Todd Karas, Head of Bank of America Public Capital Corp. About Metrus Energy Metrus Energy, Inc. is headquartered in San Francisco, California and provides capital, project development and asset management services for energy efficiency projects at large commercial, industrial and institutional facilities. Metrus offers comprehensive project financing solutions, including its innovative Efficiency Services Agreement (ESA), whereby customer repayment is based on a cost per avoided unit of realized energy savings.
