Sloan Valve Company Only Flushometer Mfr. To Be Cradle-Cradle Certified
News

FRANKLIN PARK, IL - Sloan Valve Company has renewed its Cradle to Cradle(SM) Design certification for its UPPERCUT® Dual-Flush Flushometer and the Royal® model 111 manual Flushometer. MBDC, the product process and design firm that evaluates companies and their products based on their "eco-effectiveness," certified the two Flushometers for Silver-level status.

"Sloan was the first, and remains the only, manufacturer in the plumbing industry to offer products certified within the Cradle to Cradle framework ," said Jim Allen, President and CEO of Sloan Valve Company. "MBDC's Cradle to Cradle certification process is the most thorough and rigorous Second-party assessment of a products environmental characteristics. This certification not only confirms our Flushometers' water savings; it offers a true assessment of the overall human and environmental health attributes of our materials throughout their life cycles, as well as examines the level of our corporate responsibility."

Cradle to Cradle Silver designation assures specifiers and owners that the UPPERCUT and Royal Flushometers are manufactured and certified to a high environmental standard. All Sloan UPPERCUT and Royal Flushometers are made with pride in the United States by union labor and are compliant with the Buy American Act.

MBDC, a Charlottesville, Va., product process and design firm, was founded in 1995 to promote and shape the implementation of eco-effective design principles. Instead of perpetuating cradle-to-grave products, dumped in landfills after fulfilling their initial intended purpose, MBDC's Cradle to Cradle Design concept recognizes products whose materials are continuously circulated in closed loops. Designing for cradle-to-cradle product lifecycles, for instance, plans for sustainability and product re-use, which reduces reliance on virgin material inputs and lessens overall material costs.

Sloan Valve Company, which is a recipient of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's Green Power Leadership Award, adheres to its corporate mission of sustainability. Sloan has wind turbines and a solar power array on the roof of its headquarters, which supply energy to its facility, and Sloan has installed energy-efficient lighting to further reduce its carbon footprint. Sustainability is also reflected in Sloan's material choices: About 89% of a Sloan Flushometer is made from brass casting alloy, 99% of which is from recycled sources, and the Flushometer is completely recyclable or reusable in remodel projects.

Sloan Valve Company is the world's leading manufacturer of commercial plumbing systems and has been in operation since 1906. Headquartered in Franklin Park, Illinois, the company manufactures water- and energy-efficient restroom solutions such as Flushometers, faucets and vitreous china fixtures for commercial, industrial, and institutional markets worldwide.
